Terms

Last updated 6 September 2026. Dupe is an invite-only project run by one person, offered free while it is being built.

What Dupe is

Dupe reads a reference image and measures its style — colours from the actual pixels, plus a description of its medium, light and finish — and assembles a text prompt from what it measured. It can then send that prompt to an image generator. It is a tool for describing a look, not a service for copying anyone's work.

Your account

What you upload

Only upload images you have the right to use. Dupe cannot tell whether a picture is yours, licensed to you, or taken from somewhere it should not have been. That judgement is yours and the responsibility stays with you.

Do not upload: material you have no rights to; images of identifiable people who have not agreed to it; anything sexual involving minors; or anything illegal where you are. Content falling into those categories is removed, and the account with it.

What you own

Generated images and other people's styles

A measured style is a description of a technique: palette, light, line weight, texture. Techniques are not owned. Particular characters, logos, trade dress and photographs of real people are a different matter, and prompting Dupe towards them can produce output you are not free to publish. Dupe does not police this for you.

What is not promised

Ending it

You can ask for your account and everything in it to be deleted at any time, and it will be. Access can also be withdrawn — this is a private invite list, not a public service — and if that happens without a breach of these terms, you will be offered your work first.
